Background of the Study
Crisis management is an essential element of business strategy, particularly in industries that face volatile environments, such as media and telecommunications. Both industries are subject to various crises, ranging from technological disruptions and regulatory changes to public relations challenges and market competition. In Taraba State, the media and telecom sectors serve as vital channels of communication and information dissemination, yet both are vulnerable to crises that can affect their reputation, operational efficiency, and market position (Ulrich & Olsen, 2024).
While media firms typically focus on managing public relations and media exposure during crises, telecom companies are more focused on operational and technical resilience, especially in response to network outages or regulatory hurdles. This study will explore the different crisis management strategies employed by media and telecom firms in Taraba State, highlighting the distinct approaches these industries use to manage crises and mitigate their effects on business performance and consumer trust.
Statement of the Problem
Both media and telecom firms in Taraba State face unique crises that affect their operations and reputation. Media firms struggle with issues related to information accuracy, public trust, and regulatory compliance, while telecom companies deal with technical failures, service outages, and regulatory constraints. Despite these differences, both industries need effective crisis management strategies to minimize damage to their brands and ensure business continuity. This study aims to compare how media and telecom firms in Taraba State manage crises and respond to challenges in their respective sectors (Abdullahi & Jibril, 2023).
